PROFILE

DAVID GARDINER

My main interests are birds, insects and animals. I took up birdwatching in 2004 and digital photography in 2006. At the point I purchased my first camera and zoom lens I knew absolutely nothing about photography, therefore I am still very much a beginner
Images taken up to December 2007 were using a Nikon D70S and a Sigma 50 to 500 lens. In December 2007 I purchased a Nikon D300 camera and then in July 2008 I bought a Nikon 200 to 400 F4 lens. There are one or two shots taken in 2005 which would have been with a compact digital camera. Most images have a date taken in the description above the image so from the dates you can work out which combination of equipment was used.

I have recently had lessons in web design which have resulted in this website. I hope you enjoy looking around the galleries.

Most of my photography is done in South East England, mainly Kent. Some of my regular haunts include:-
Elmley Marshes
Oare Marshes
Dungeness
Stodmarsh
Bough Beech Reservoir
Dartford Park ( I often take a walk round in my lunch hour, sometimes with the camera)
The London Wetland Centre
Thursley Common
My Back Garden

When I get the chance, I like to visit Wales, especially the Red Kite Feeding Station at Gigrin Farm and Skomer Island. I have also been to the Farne Islands in Northumberland and Donna Nook in Lincolnshire (Grey Seals).

Some of the animals and birds on this wesite were photographed in captivity, in particular some of the ducks and mammals. In these cases it will be clear from the descriptions above the image that they were captive.

You may come across the odd image taken outside the UK. Once again I have made this clear in the description.

Every year I visit Madeira so I am trying to build up some photographs of Maderian Birds. There is a separate Madieran Gallery
so please take a look if you are interested. I have added a page to the Madeiran Gallery which describes some of the birds you can expect to see if you go there. There is also a link on the Links Page to an excellent site called Birding Madeira which gives a lot of information about birdwatching on the Island and has some good photographs.

Most of the flowers and plants in the galleries were photographed by my Wife Jennie Gardiner.
